Hello! My name is Jennifer, and this blog is designed to help me share my study-abroad experience with you! To introduce myself and my upcoming year, here are a few things you might want to know:
1. I'm an English major at Saint Mary's College.
This means a few things. One, I like words, so my posts may be lengthy; I will try to work on this. Two, I attend an all-women's college, and that unavoidably impacts my views on things. Three, it's a Catholic school, and that also plays into my college and abroad experience.
2. I love languages.
I will likely attempt to include my daily struggles with the beautiful Italian language on this blog. Please forgive any mistakes (and note that Google Translate is not always accurate...).
3. I took six years of Latin and loved it.
This is one of many things that makes me, I'm told, "weird." But nevertheless, a huge part of my Roman experience will surely include things I learned in Latin: the language, the history, and the culture.
4. I have never traveled alone before, and this is only my second time out of the United States.
My previous transatlantic trip included Spain and Portugal in 2011. This will be a step out of my comfort zone in many ways, so extra positive vibes will be appreciated!
Thanks so much for being interested in my upcoming year! I can't wait to share it with you. Please keep in touch with your comments, emails, or Facebook messages. I look forward to hearing from you. For now...keep me and my fellow adventurers in your thoughts and prayers for a safe trip on the 24th!
